Some comments about the Clay/Kelly Ripa/Rosie issue:
I <snip> am ambivalent towards [the] Jimmy Kimmel mention. I think it is clear he didn't want to make it worse for Clay, I like the fact that he did bring out what was wrong with Rosie's statements and his ribbing towards Clay was in keeping with the way friends rib each other. With regards to Clay...I think this whole show was actually a plus because of Regis' actions. It was clear that he didn't think that Clay deserved Kelly's censure that it was truly much ado about nothing.However...I am still disturbed by how mean he [Kimmel] was to Rosie. This is still whats wrong with comedy today; the meanness and the fact that people are getting so apathetic towards that. He could've made his point and left out the mean words to Rosie.
The only way I can excuse Jimmy is to think that as a friend of BOTH Clay and Kelly he was pretty steamed by what Rosie said. The fact is...as much as I love Rosie for standing up for Clay and that I do believe her heart is in the right place what she said turned out bad for BOTH Clay and Kelly. What she accused Kelly of was truly a very serious matter specially in that industry while it also once again brought to the fore Clay's sexuality, just when focus on that was starting to wane. I am not surprised that Kelly's friends will come out defending her.
About giving Kelly a pass...I can understand why the media is not mentioning her rant. As unprofessional and ugly as it was...it was within her right to do it because it was her show and as Rosie told her on the view that is the place for her to bring out her opinion. I don't think it is necessary for the media to hammer in the fact that she was being a diva because her actions speak for themselves. IMO it hurt her where it counts the most, her regular audience. I do believe for the most part...the people that saw both shows, her regular viewers, had a WTF moment when she showed the ugly underneath that mask. For the people that didn;t see it the reaction is, ok, she may not like the hand in mouth but and that was disrepectful of Clay but lets get on with it already.
I am actually surprised that the media is calling her on her hypocrisy. I think this is what will hurt her the most. Lets face it...Clay did a no no and he is getting a big lesson from that, but it won't really change people's image of him cos he was the newbie and his AMA spoof showed what a good sport he is. Rosie's rant is getting her some negative attention but this is part of her persona...he opinions has gotten her in a lot of trouble in the past so this is nothing new to the public...this will simply pass for her. With Kelly on the other hand...the biggest stupidity she did was stepping out of her usual down to earth, good sport, funny ditsy blonde role...and showed her real diva humorless self. That is the ugly here...she is starting to take herself too seriously and that is not what the R&K audience is used to, what the public is used to from her.
So in the end...I think Karma is still at work here. Clay got a lot of buzz just when christmas shopping is around the corner...Rosie probably got a slight ratings boost the next day...and Kelly will have a hard time erasing the diva shrew hypocrite image she showed her audience and thats a gift that will keep on giving.
